Dear Parents and Carers,
Another busy week at SCA!
Kindergarten celebrated 101 fabulous days at SCA, Year 1 dressed in Olden Day clothes to learn what life was like in the past as part of the History curriculum, Year 3 and 4 participated in a ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety session presented by the AFP and Year 6 visited Parliament House to learn about the procedures of parliament, and that Australia is a democratic country which has a mixed system of government. To top this off, all of the students were able to show us their groovy moves during Footsteps Dance class.
Hats On!
From the 1st August, we have returned to our "No hat, no play" policy. Just a reminder that all students will need to wear their hat during school breaks, to and from school especially if they are walking or on a bike. Hats shield the face and head from sunburn. It protects your eyes from the brightness of the sun, which can cause damage and it also helps to prevent skin cancers and skin damage. Many of us now know the dangers of repeated sunburn and have to get our skin checked on a regular basis.
Bush Christmas Fete November 17
The preparation for our upcoming Bush Christmas Fete began late last year. So far, we have booked many of the attractions including Bells Carnival, Petting Zoo, Hot Rod display and live entertainment including musicians, choirs and dancers. We need your help to run different stalls as a class groups.
On Tuesday 8th August, we will hold our Fete Meeting in the Library. Please come along as many hands make light work! All funds raised from our Fete goes back into resourcing learning here at SCA.
From The Assistant Principal Week 3
Your children might have been talking to you about a new spelling program St Clare of Assisi, introduced this week called Spelling Mastery.
Spelling Mastery is a spelling program designed to support students not only with their spelling, but with phonics knowledge. This program, as the name suggests, is a ‘mastery’ program. This means that we would expect that all students should be getting between 80-100% of them correct before moving on to the next concept. In most instances students are getting 100% or very close to 100% in each of their tests. This means that some students may come home saying that the program is too easy. Each child was placed in their group after completing a placement test either late last term, or the beginning of this term for those who were new to the school. Teachers will continue to monitor student’s progress. If you do have concerns regarding your child’s placement speak to your child’s teacher.
First Eucharist Commitment Masses
Thank you to those people who attended a mass over their weekend. If you haven't attended yet, please ensure you attend this weekend.
St Clare of Assisi Feast Day celebrations
Next Friday, 11th August is the feast day for our patron saint, St Clare of Assisi. We will start the day with Mass in our School Hall at 9.15am. Parents and carers are most welcome to join us.
Congratulations to the children who will be awarded white cards at the 8.45 am Friday Morning Assembly

This photo is lost property from week 3 sorted into year groups. The largest pile - in the middle is for clothes with no names!
Lost property is sorted in weeks 3, 8 and 10 each term by parent volunteers. Our task is made so much easier if items are labeled with both a first name and surname.
Thanks from the volunteers!

Sofia R (5 B) was a flagbearer at the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup match on 25 July, Columbia vs Korea. Sofia and her sister Jess travelled to Sydney, practiced what they had to do in the early hours of Tuesday morning and walked on to the Allianz Stadium field with the national teams just before kickoff at midday.
The atmosphere was electric, both girls had an amazing experience and made memories to last a lifetime. They were kitted out from head to toe in Adidas gear and got to keep all of it as a momento.
So far Sofia has been to the Matildas vs Ireland game, a flagbearer at the Columbia vs Korea game and will be going to a quarter final match in August. Sofia's favourite player is Ellie Carpenter and hopes one day to follow in her footsteps and play for the Matildas!
