Dear SCA families,
Congratulations on continuing to navigate through our remote learning platforms.
Week 7 remote learning programs have been sent to each family and are also available on our webpage under the remote learning tab.
https://sca.act.edu.au/remote-learning
Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher if you are having any difficulties with the work being provided.
As we embark on another week of living in such an unknown environment, thank you for your patience and understanding. As soon as I receive correspondence from Catholic Education, I will keep you informed on what the coming weeks will look like for SCA.
It has been lovely to receive emails of support from our parent community. I appreciate just how challenging this environment currently is, especially trying to navigate remote learning with your own child/ren as well as trying to maintain your work commitments remotely. Our staff too appreciate the challenges this brings. Despite many of them juggling their own commitments, including some with school age students, family and home learning, I have never been so proud and privileged to be surrounded by staff so dedicated to ensure learning is happening for students at St Clare of Assisi.
Whilst I understand this can at times be frustrating, I thank you for your patience and understanding and encourage parents to be sensitive to social media platforms which may publicly bring unnecessary negative comments towards our school and staff. I very much welcome any feedback on how we can improve our practices. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly with any concerns via email or telephone.
Defence families
Over recent years many of our SCA Defence students have had a parent, or both parents, deploy to the Middle East, especially Afghanistan. Unfortunately it has left many in the Military community reflecting on their time, loss of friends and experiencing general feelings of helplessness or anger – especially those that worked with local Afghans, many of whom are now seeking Australian support.
Fortunately, we have at SCA, a defence liasion officer who is employed to support our defence students and their families. Kate Blenkin is in this role and is currently maintaining regular contact with our SCA Defence families during remote learning. Kate has shared many sources of support available to veterans and their families; including a 24 hour family helpline and ongoing counselling amongst others.
If you have a Defence student you are worried about, or if you know of a current or former Defence family (regardless of how long ago they served) requesting support, please don’t hesitate to contact our office so we can put you in touch with our defence support liaison officer, Kate.
DRIVEWAY CHALLENGE!
Be the light for your street!
Thank you for the wonderful work in the lead up to promoting our book week celebrations on Monday. What a wonderful opportunity for community engagement and spirit for our SCA school during such challenging times. Next week, SCA will be participating in the Be the light for your street, driveway challenge!
The idea is for our students to Be the light for their street by writing words of kindness through words and art design using chalk on their driveways.
This family task is an opportunity for our families to join together and use their words and actions to promote kindness and Be the light for our school in their own environments.
To assist children to participate in the challenge chalk will be delivered via post. This should be delivered early next week, if your child hasn't received their chalk by mid next week, please email Karen Snowball in the office at karen.snowball@cg.catholic.edu.au We would invite families that wish to participate, to send in the Be the light for their street pictures that we could then use to promote our school on our Facebook page and through the newsletter.
Below are some examples of what driveway art may look like for our students to be the light for their street.
Kind regards,
Erin Marmont
