Week 6 Update from the Principal
Dear SCA Families,
Firstly, thank you for your continued patience, courage and flexibility as we begin remote learning in a very challenging environment. You have been magnificent, supporting your child/ren in their learning during this period and Staff have been incredible in the way they have adapted to provide a remote learning program. I have enjoyed the opportunities of seeing the students through our connection sessions and witnessing their sense of achievement being able to successfully log on and navigate through the TEAMS platform. Many students have engaged in our remote learning programs, and overall, students have certainly demonstrated their learning by their ability to be Self-Managers, Communicators, Researchers, Collaborators and Thinkers.
As always, please be assured that I am in regular contact with Catholic Education who provide me with up to date information from ACT Health and Government directives. At this stage, to minimise any further risk and spread of infection, all students are to continue Remote learning from home whilst we are in lockdown. I appreciate that some students of essential workers have already indicated their need for accessing remote learning at school.
Teachers will continue to connect with their students and colleagues via Teams, email, Google Classroom and Seesaw. The work your child’s teacher sets is important, but your family’s wellbeing is more so. Try to keep a routine, and a dedicated space for school work, but don’t forget that much valuable and memorable learning takes place in “real world” situations.
Students are encouraged to work with you doing some practical hands on activities. Be that via cooking, creating job lists, cleaning, exploring outside or playing board games or cards together. Don’t forget the fine motor work: Lego, cutting, play-dough, tidying up toys are important too! .
Book week day online Monday 23 August.
Since we are unable to celebrate book week this Friday, SCA will instead celebrate remotely next Monday 23, August. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and students who wish to participate, to dress up as their favourite book character and wear their outfit, hat whatever has been created, to our connection sessions. A photo sent in would also be great too!! Obviously we are unable to access the shops for materials, so the more creative, using any existing home materials or costumes is greatly encouraged!
I’d love to share your snaps of children learning in their non-school setting and some book week celebration pictures too. Please send in any photos you’d be happy to share on our Facebook page. (I will not use any photos that contain names or other identifying features.) These photos can be sent through to your child’s classroom teacher and we can organise the rest!
St Clare Art Competition Friday, 20 August - due to the pupil free day last Friday, we were unable to collect and finalise our Artwork competition. This message is to extend an invitation out to any students who would still like to participate. Please email a photo of your Art work entry by this Friday, 20 August to Karen.haines@cg.catholic.edu.au and we will announce winners and hold the prizes for students when we all return to school
I understand these unprecedented circumstances have led us to think very differently about the way we teach and how our children learn. For many of our students and families, this may have caused anxiety and will challenge the way we teach and deliver content.
Our school website https://sca.act.edu.au/remote-learning has a number of resources that may assist in supporting the well-being of our students and their families, as well as a guide on curriculum planning for remote learning.
Thank you again for all that you are doing. Be comforted in knowing that we will pick up where each student is at when we are able to return to school. Our children will get through this and be okay. Each of you are doing a wonderful job in supporting our students to do this.
We all miss our students and their energy, humour and joy and look forward to when we are able to have students return to face-to-face learning at school.
On behalf of Fr James, myself and our SCA staff, thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Erin Marmont
Principal (Acting)
