Dear SCA Families,
Out with the old, in with the new! Though 2020 still has some life left in it, the Church year has ended, with a new one starting this Sunday. We finished the old Church year with a reading we’d all do well to take note of.
In this reading (Matthew 25:31-46) we find some old-fashioned symbolism and language, which has been used to show us the way to eternal happiness.
Jesus says, nothing about needing to have faith, or being religious, or even free of sin. The sole determinant is whether one has acted with care and compassion for people in need.
God does not expect us to be strict adherents to dogma or rules. Instead, our loving God wants us to care for those in need. In this way, all people may live in peace.
A worthwhile dinner conversation this week may be “Who did I help today, and who can I help tomorrow?”
Fantastic Fun Day
Sadly, COVID meant we could not have our community Fete this year. However, our Fete committee and staff wanted to give the children a day of fun, to ensure some fond memories of 2020 remain. And fun we had. Friday was a terrific day, with thanks to the Fete Committee who worked effectively to ensure everything was organised, set up, coordinated etc. I would like to thank our Fete Committee members for all their hard work; in particular, Ms Val Ciuffetelli, Mrs Karen Haines, Ms Anne Scollen and Mrs Amy Backhouse and the nearly 40 parents who helped on the day.
Thank you also to our amazing SCA staff who kept the children and fun going, on what was such a hot day.
Our Newest Members of the St Clare’s Family
68 excited pre-schoolers and their parents visited St Clare’s today for the Kindergarten Orientation Day. It was great to see the children and parents leave with a smile on their face. Thanks to all the staff for planning to ensure our newest students were made to feel welcome.
School Fees
A reminder that school fees are now overdue, for those who are not on a regular direct debit with us I ask that you settle your account with us by Friday so that we are able to meet our budgetary commitments.
Semester Two Reports
Your child’s teacher is in the process of preparing Semester Two reports. There is a great deal of work and energy that goes into the writing of these documents, and I thank the teachers for their efforts. Reports will be sent home with the children on Friday 11th December.
January Holidays
Our fantastic Outside of School Hours (OSHC) team run an engaging and fun holiday program for SCA children during January. Please contact Pam (OSHC Director) or our front office for further details.
Library
Please have a look in your home for any SCA Library books that may not yet have found their way back to their own home. You can help us to minimise the number of books we need to replace by returning them as soon as possible please.
COVID Arrangements
Though community restrictions are easing, SCA is maintaining a risk adverse approach to ensure the safety of students, staff and families. We are following the advice of ACT Health, ACT Education and Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn.
This means that, in general, restrictions at school will stay in place for the rest of the term. Unfortunately, this means that, because of the 1 person per 4m2 rule, and 1.5m spacing rule, we have to change our usual end of year events.
Please note the following in particular:
- Year 6 Graduation – Three separate class ceremonies will be held on Tuesday 15th Only one adult will be permitted to attend. Please see separate note sent home to Year 6 parents.
- End of Year Thank You BBQ – Unfortunately this event has had to be cancelled.
- Farewell Assembly – Because all students will be attending, there is not space available for parents to attend.
- Kindergarten Nativity Concert – This anticipated event will still go ahead, however only one parent will be able to attend. Please see separate note sent home to Kindergarten.
- Thanksgiving Liturgy and Leadership Handover – We will still celebrate the end of year, and Year 5 stepping up, with a liturgy. Because of the number of students in the Hall, however, parents will not be able to attend.
- Awards Assembly – Instead of one whole school assembly, we will hold three separate award ceremonies. Children receiving an award will be able to invite one parent to attend. Individual invitations will be sent home shortly.
Please also remember that, upon health advice, bubblers remain closed. Children should bring a water bottle to school each day. They may fill their bottles during the day using taps inside the buildings.
Any adult on school grounds MUST register according to our protocols. This is both for student safety and contact tracing if required.
Community Council Meeting
The next, and final meeting for the year, of your Community Council is next Tuesday 1st December at 6.00pm.
It was once said…
“At this Christmas when Christ comes, will He find a warm heart? Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving others with God’s own love and concern.” –
St Teresa of Calcutta
Blessings to you and your family.

Dear Parents,
WILL YOU HAVE A CHILD AT ST CLARE OF ASSISI PRIMARY IN 2021 AND AN OLDER SIBLING IN A SYSTEMIC SECONDARY SCHOOL?
The systemic school system includes Merici College, St Clare’s College, St Francis Xavier College and St Mary Mackillop Catholic College.
It does not include Marist, Daramalan or St Edmunds.
If so, this form must be returned by Monday 15th December 2020 to ensure your fees are billed correctly in 2021.

Thank you in advance.

In the event of a change in restrictions or inclement weather at Christmas, we will advise revised arrangements as early as possible.
We will require a lot of assistance from our parish community to make all these Masses possible.
Please email or phone the Parish Office to volunteer for any of these roles and also advise which Mass you would like to attend:
