Dear SCA Families,
Thank you sincerely to all who made last week so special. Celebrating our patron Saint and our wonderful school gave us all the chance to give thanks for the blessings of our community.
To all the staff who were involved in organising every aspect of a fantastic week, led by Mrs Kristy Everding, well done. I am always impressed by the extra work that so many of our staff will do to ensure the children have a range of special experiences at school. Though we could not include parents as we usually do, we all enjoyed a great week.
For some snapshots of what took place, check out our Facebook page (@scaconder).
Prayers Please
Last week we received the sad news that Mr David Miller, the father of Jason and Mikayla passed away. Please keep Simone, Mikayla (3 Blue), Jason (1 Blue) and their family in your prayers. Our condolences also go to all who were friends of David. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to Simone and her family.
May perpetual light shine upon David, may he rest in peace.
It will make a difference
There are 7 weeks until the ACT Election (17th October) and am sure you are seeing candidates from all parties at shopping centres (or even receiving phone calls from them). I encourage you to approach candidates at the shopping centres and mention or discuss the value of ACT Catholic Schools and quiz them on their party’s support for ACT Catholic Schools.
In the ACT, there are 29 systemic Catholic Schools who educate 15 000 students. In Canberra, Catholic schools are very similar to public schools, with our schools having almost exactly the same average ICSEA score (1077-1076). Our schools are inclusive, support families from all backgrounds, and operate on a modest budget.
Did you know that when you compare the total funding that Catholic schools in each state/territory receive, the ACT are the second lowest funded Catholic schools in the country? This is particularly impacted by the ACT Government’s low funding of Catholic schools.
Have a chat to the candidates and mention that you are a parent in an ACT Catholic School and funding of Catholic Schools is an important issue for you.
Welcome
This week we welcome three new students and their families to our SCA family. A very warm welcome to:
Huni 6G, Seleti 2G and Ellie 5G.
Congratulations
We have, finally, presented ribbons from this year’s Swimming Carnival. We kept waiting until parents could be present, but it just was not possible. Congratulations to all of our champion swimmers. Please check our Facebook page for photos of the smiling winners.
Science Week, Book Fair, Book Week
Please keep an eye on SZapp notifications for details of this week’s events for Science Week and our Book Fair. We also have Book Week Celebrations coming up, so stay tuned.
School Photos
Please ensure your child’s uniform is perfect for Monday’s school photos. Full winter school uniform to be worn, no sports uniforms. We know their smiles will be spot-on!
Fathers Day Celebrations
Sadly we will not be able to hold our annual Fathers Day celebrations this year. COVID restrictions mean that we will instead be sending all our Dads, Grand-dads and Father figures virtual messages instead.
