Dear SCA Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. It has been a cool and wet week since our last newsletter. This weather can sometimes seem to be limiting as we don’t get outside as much as we want to, but it also provides opportunities for activities that we can share together inside. In our home, two of my sons pulled out the guitars, with the older teaching the younger some tips. Music is a significant thing in many households and often brings people together. We seem to connect songs with different events and experiences. These times when we come together are valuable and the opportunities can sometimes be planned and also just present themselves. I hope that you have been able to engage in those things that bring you together to laugh, share stories and experiences. Our wet weather can provide wonderful opportunities.
I cannot thank you all enough for your continued support with maintaining social distancing and the limits currently on accessing the school site. I also thank you for working hard to get the kids to school on time and reducing the early departures. I know the cold and dark mornings do not make this easy sometimes, so thank you for your efforts!
Traffic
Several of our neighbours contacted me this week asking parents to please avoid blocking the road while waiting to collect children after school. This limits their ability to leave and enter their own house. Please consider driving around the block, rather than waiting in a stationary line. We must always be courteous and considerate of our local area.
Afternoon Pick-Up
Please remember that Years 3-6 children are not dismissed until after the bell rings at 3.00pm. Parents are encouraged to come after 3.05, giving children time to safely get to their pick-up spot.
Three-Way Conferences
Thanks to the many parents who met, via Zoom, with their child’s teacher last week. As educators, we know it’s vital that children’s learning is actively supported at home and school. Keeping in touch with your child’s teacher is a great way of supporting your child to learn and grow.
Hats On
Though it’s still cold, the UV is on the increase so we remind you of the School policy regarding exposure to the sun: Simply stated, from August until May, there is a ‘No Hat – No Play’ policy. Therefore, from next Monday (3rd August) all children must wear their school uniform hats while outside during recess and lunch.
G’Day to all the wonderful grandparents out there
Sunday was the feast of St Anne and St Joachim. They are the grandparents of Jesus. I am sure they were both very proud of Jesus, just like normal grandparents. My kids love sharing their successes with their grandparents. Imagine when Anne and Joachim visited Jesus and what he told them. ‘Cured a blind man today…. fed five thousand people today all on my own’. My mum always says if she knew grandkids were this much fun she would have had them first. I don’t know what that says about me!
It was once said…
“Mirrors can’t talk; lucky for me they can’t laugh either.”
Blessings to you and your family. Take care and go gently.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
Congratulations to the children who will be awarded white cards this week.
