Dear SCA families,
There has been a fantastic buzz of activity, focus and learning around the school since we returned. Classes have settled into new routines, with children already working to demonstrate new learnings. Thank you to parents for having the children come to school ready to listen and learn, and thanks to all our staff for such a great start to the year.
Year 6 SCA News and Video Images
Each week our Year 6 students publish an online SCA news report. It’s a great initiative by the teachers, and the children have already commenced doing a great job. Though the link is only shared in our community, it is on a public website.
They will occasionally speak with and record other children across the school. They will, though, never use a child’s last name or other personal identifying details in the SCA News. If you have concerns about this, or would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to contact us here at school.
Year 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival
The Swimming Carnival at Queanbeyan Pool is on next Friday (28 February) with the first 50m+ competition races starting around 9:30am. The 15m races will be hopefully starting some time around 12:00pm. Please come along to help out or support your children on this fun day.
Permission notes must be returned this week Friday 21st February, presently we have only had 80 notes returned. If you haven't already returned your form, you will find the link below.
Working with Vulnerable People
Any adult (over 16 years of age) who volunteers to assist in classrooms, with sporting teams, working in the canteen, uniform shop, walkathon, fete, etc must have a Working with Vulnerable People card on them at all times. Many parents may find that their card is about to expire. Please ensure you renew your card on-line and when your new card arrives please bring it in to the school so it can be photocopied and a copy left at the school. Thank you.
Think You Know Year 3 - 6
Today and tomorrow our Years 3 - 6 students will participate in a Think U Know session with members of the Australian Federal Police. The sessions focus on teaching students how to be responsible digital citizens and help to raise awareness around the positive and negative aspects of living in a digital world.
A parent session was conducted on Tuesday evening with parents from 28 families present.
Outside of School Hours Care
Have you enrolled your child for 2020? We are unable to accept children in care unless you have completed and returned the documentation for this year.
The school offers Before & After school care via the SCA OSHC program. If you are interested in using this service please contact OSHC directly or call our Front Office.
We provide this facility for working parents. Therefore, there should be no child dropped off to school before 8:30am, nor left at school after 3:20pm. Your child is not supervised before or after these times and dropping them off before this time or not collecting them leaves your children in a potentially dangerous situation. This is done entirely at your own risk.
Staff may be on site early for work purposes, or there may be no staff on site. Supervision of students is a carefully managed arrangement between the school and the staff. It is not fair to expect staff to supervise students before official work hours commence. Your child’s best interests are paramount to us all. We provide OSHC to ensure these interests are met safely.
Care Meals
We have a number of families in our community who would benefit from a care meal and our freezer is empty. It would be much appreciated if you could provide a clearly labelled care meal with ingredients in a disposable container for our freezer. Thank you in anticipation.
It was once said…
The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to ride bicycles. A shaky child on a bicycle for the first time needs both support and freedom. The realisation that this is what the child will always need can hit hard. Sloan Wilson
Blessings to you and your family.

LENTEN JOURNEY
Next Wednesday we mark the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday. The day before is called Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday originated during the Middle Ages. As in contemporary times, food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk, and fish were regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday in order to consume those items that would inevitably become spoiled during the next forty days. The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats, and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name "Fat Tuesday" or Mardi Gra.
Please join us as we celebrate
Ash Wednesday
on Wednesday 26th February 2020.
Year 5 will be leading us in the celebration in the hall at 2pm.
All welcome.
Congratulations to the children who will be awarded white cards at this Friday morning assembly.

Your School Banking Co-ordinators will notify bankers periodically of how many tokens they have. If you still have any Dollarmites tokens could you please return them the next time your child participates in School Banking.
Thank you,

WE NEED A PARENT NETWORK REPRESENTATIVE FOR 2020 FROM 2 YELLOW
WE NEED A PARENT NETWORK REPRESENTATIVE FOR 2020 FROM 2 YELLOW
St Clare of Assisi Primary School has a network of parents who work together to establish and strengthen relationships amongst parents, families and the school. We are a friendly, informal group who recognise that it is not always easy to find time to volunteer, so we keep the focus on sharing small tasks in an understanding “no pressure” atmosphere.
- Some of the activities that our Parent Network undertake include:
- Acknowledging staff birthdays and special events;
- Welcoming new families to the school;
- Regular communication with classroom teacher;
- Assisting with provision of Care Meals for our freezer;
- Volunteering at school events;
- Arranging occasional year level social events (i.e. family picnic or dinner);
- Fostering a friendly, welcoming school community.
If this sounds like something you wish to be involved in please contact our Parent Network Coordinator, Anne Scollen on 0414 433 710 or email: SCAparentnetwork@outlook.com.au
