Dear SCA Families,
What if I told you that, with just 15 minutes of your time each day, you could significantly boost your child’s educational outcomes. Taking just 10-15 minutes leads to a daily habit that not only improves their vocabulary and comprehension but also strengthens your child's listening skills and attention span. Research shows that children who are read to regularly perform better academically, develop a love for reading, and build a stronger bond with their parents. Those few minutes each day can lay a solid foundation for their future success, both in school and beyond.
As we celebrate Book Week at SCA, let's come together to promote the joys of reading! This week is a perfect opportunity to immerse our children in the magical world of books. Whether it's an adventure, a fairy tale, or a story about friendship, reading opens new worlds and sparks imagination. By encouraging our kids to read, we nurture their curiosity and creativity, helping them grow into lifelong learners. Let's make reading a daily joy and share the love of stories with our children, not just during Book Week, but every day.
Book Week
I am sure I am not the only one who looks forward to this week each year. Book Week brings a sense of pride and fulfillment. It's a reminder that education is not just about academic achievement but also about nurturing a holistic love for learning. The dedication of our teachers and staff, led by Mrs Katherine Austin, in organising and executing these activities is truly commendable. When I see the smiles on the faces of our students as they immerse themselves in the world of books, I know that the joys of Book Week will continue to be cherished for years to come.
Feast Week
I thoroughly enjoyed our celebrations last week. You’d think that after 30 years we would be tired of it, but not so. The children enjoyed many fun activities on various days, and our Mass and Peer Support activity to finish the week were special.
Thank you to all the staff who organised various activities, and a special thanks to Mrs Susan Strickland, our acting REC, who pulled it all together.
It was once said…
Blessings to you and your family.

The Resilience Project at SCA
The students have been enjoying GEM chats in their classrooms. We are all working on gratitude. We know working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or what we want. When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives – this only takes 21 days! Practising gratitude every day increases our levels of energy, and helps us to feel happier and more focused, determined and optimistic. It even helps us have better sleep, lowers levels of anxiety and depression and we are less likely to get sick. So many benefits – let’s all try to be grateful for the things and people in our lives every day!
Whole Family Activity:
Gratitude Scavenger Hunt
As a family create a scavenger hunt list of things that make you happy or you are grateful for. You can make your own list or use the examples below:
- Something that makes you happy
- Something you love to smell
- Something you enjoy looking at
- Something that is your favourite colour
- Something you like in nature
- Something that is useful for you
Each member of the family uses the list and has to find as many things as they can.
You can hunt for things inside or outside, or both. You can hunt for real things, or you can also do this using magazines or pictures from the internet.
After a set amount of time hunting, come back together, have a look at what each person collected and let them explain why they are grateful for each item.
Family Habit Builder:
Every night at dinner, have each person talk about their favourite thing about that day. I am sure this put a smile on every face.
All Parents & Carers have secure access to Parent & Carer Hub. It is a great source of information and has some tips to help your kids at home become more resilient.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. It will be open until Friday 23rd August. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the link below:

Have a great week.

This Sunday’s Gospel is a reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
When reflecting on this Gospel, we must focus on the lesson intended to be taught; Pope Francis says that ‘we must not pursue God in dreams and in images of grandeur and power.’ Rather, as the Pope explains, God ‘must be recognised in the humanity of Jesus and, consequently, in that of the brothers and sisters we meet on the path of life.’
This is a hard teaching for many to accept, even among those within the Church.
God, the Pope reiterates, ‘asks us to seek him not outside of life and history, but in relationship with Christ and with our brothers and sisters. ‘Seeking him in life,’ the Pope adds, ‘in history, in our daily life … is the road to encounter with God: the relationship with Christ and our brothers and sisters.’ Adapted from REFLECTION by Nick Brodie.

Smarties Match Report
The whole Smarties team is this week’s ‘player of the week’! This was by far the Smarties best game of the season. They showed how they’ve developed as a team, moving the ball up and down the court with ease, finding space, and supporting each other every step of the way. Our shooters were simply fantastic, scoring a whopping 15 goals - a fitting end to a fantastic team effort!
SCA is incredibly proud of our students who have been selected to represent us on various sports teams. Their hard work, dedication, and talent have truly shone through, and we look forward to cheering them on as they compete at the next level.
