Dear SCA Families,
We have, rapidly it seems, come to the end of the first semester for 2024. It continues to be a privilege to be part of SCA. I have been impressed with the professionalism and dedication of all staff. I wish to thank each of them for their efforts so far this year. I am sure you all join with me in wishing them a well-earned and restful break.
Thank you to the many parents who have supported the school in such a variety of ways. Parents have helped: with the Community Council, welcome BBQ, in the canteen, in reading groups, with excursions, in the classrooms, on special days and events, by attending meetings etc. etc.
Thanks to the children. The staff enjoy coming to work each day because we work with a wonderful group of children.
Enjoy the holidays everyone.
Reports
‘The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend forever running up and down the field and never scoring.’ Bill Copeland.
On Friday you will, via Compass, receive your child’s Semester One report. I am sure that each child will be able to identify their own areas of success, and importantly for their growth, areas for development. Should you have any questions about your child’s report, or any other issues, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Three Way Conferences
These are an extremely valuable and effective way to show your child you value their schooling and to ensure communication between school and home is productive. By involving children in the process it encourages engagement in and responsibility for their learning.
These will take place in the second week of next term (Monday 29th – Wednesday 31st July). Booking details will be provided soon.
Full School Uniform Friday
With our end of semester awards ceremony on Friday (5th July), all children are asked to wear their full winter school uniform please. (Not sports uniform).
CECG Governance
Earlier this year, Archbishop Christopher announced changes to the governance arrangements for Catholic Education within the Archdiocese from 2025. This will result in a change to the proprietor of each Catholic School in the ACT but will not otherwise materially impact school operations. If you would like further information about this change, or you would like to provide feedback about the change in proprietor, please contact governance@cg.catholic.edu.au by 19 July 2024.
Term Three Starting Date – Tuesday 23rd July
Monday 22nd July is a pupil free day in all Catholic Primary Schools in Canberra. Teachers will be working together to enhance our planning and teaching strategies. All students will commence Term Three on Tuesday 23rd July.
It was once said…
Blessings to you and your family.

SCA 30th Anniversary Christmas Fete – Friday 15th November
The SCA Christmas Fete is shaping up to be a wonderful community celebration of the true meaning of the festive season - to rejoice and reflect on the year that has passed and embrace the season’s enduring message of Peace, Love and Joy.
After our first Fete Meeting, we found that we need many more SCA parent elves to give us a hand to ensure it will be an event to remember, and one that will carry us on the sleigh right to the end of 2024!
Again, this year we will be asking class parents to run a stall for a small amount of time while we have a rota, ensuring everyone can have some family time enjoying our special activities and stalls.
We have Bells Carnival rides to entertain the children and the young at heart, a reptile and animal patting zoo, Legs Dancing Studio and a local choir performing Christmas Carols, a Santa Photo opportunity, a lollypop pick, showbags and chocolate trailer, face painting and crazy hair, Kenny Koala and many yummy child friendly foods!
For the adults, we have an abundance of fun activities and treats including festive mini food boards and plenty of refreshments, a chocolate wheel, SCA Raffle, and other stalls including, books, craft, plants, gift baskets, pre-loved fashion and homewares, external market stall holders and more. Make sure to bring a big sack to take home everything you’ll need for the Festive Season!
We will be communicating through our class parents to organise Chief Elves to coordinate their class’s stall/activity. Please reach out to Faye Holden our Parent Community Rep if you can help on: SCAFete@outlook.com
Ho Ho Ho and away we gooooo!

This Sunday our Gospel comes from Mark 6: 1-6. This reflection comes from Fr Michael Tate.
I recommend viewing the film ‘Billy Elliott’ in which a youngster found that his body ‘went electric’ when he danced. To give expression to this, he had to break from the expectations of his family in a decaying mining town in the north of England. Jesus had a similar experience. His home town of Nazareth wanted to keep him in the box they could deal with: ‘the carpenter’s son’. But he was aware of a divine dynamism which welled up from the depths of who he was and it had to find expression in ‘mighty works’. So, he left Nazareth, never to return.
Each person has a unique identity and role conceived by God. Of course, we must be careful not to stifle it in others. But, first, we must try to discern what it is for ourselves. Why was I loved into existence just now, and not in the third or the twenty-third century? The cosmos as desired by God will be incomplete if I let others dictate who I am. God’s plan of salvation history will be disrupted if I don’t fulfil the role he wants me to play.
We could take a moment to pray for certain gifts of the Holy Spirit; understanding and wisdom to be enlightened as to one’s unique identity and role, and then courage to persevere against the odds, perhaps confounding the expectations of others, so as to go on and perform his ‘mighty works’.
