Dear Families,
Over the last two weekends and this one coming, many of our Year 5 children have and will, for the first time, receive Communion, or Eucharist, in our Parish. The word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek by way of Latin, and it means "thanksgiving”. As a Parish School community we share in this thanksgiving. We give thanks that we are a community. A community of faithful, blessed people. We give thanks for the love of God and for the sacrifice of Jesus which gives us all the promise of eternal life.
We pray for the children and their families, and may we all give thanks for the blessings we have.
Grandparents Day
It was cooler than we would have liked, but we still enjoyed the day. It was great to see so many grandfolk visiting the school on Friday. The smiles all round, children and adults, showed just how special grandparents are in our lives. Thanks so much to everyone who came along to visit, especially those who travelled specifically to be here.
We are all very grateful to our Parent Network who provided such lovely hospitality for our visitors. Thank you.
Prost Loperty
Though it’s not a guarantee, having your child’s name on their clothing helps it get back to them if they lose it. It’s amazing how many jumpers without names are left outside during recess and lunch.
Footy Fever Day!
We are celebrating ‘Footy Fever Day’ next Thursday (21 September). Students are encouraged to dress in their team’s footy colours or ‘sporting’ attire. Please remember to supply a block of chocolate if in Years 1-6 and lollies if in Kinder. These items will go towards our Fete next term. Thank you for your support with this.
School Fees
Term 3 school fees are now overdue. Thank you to those families who have paid their school fees. Please speak to Jo McCarthy, in the Front Office if you are having issues with your fees or if you are not sure of the amount due.
Holidays and Absent Notes
If your family is going away on holidays early, please ensure you have provided a note to your child’s classroom teacher prior to leaving. Notes are a legal requirement for our class rolls and must be provided for all absences. We appreciate your support with this.
This term finishes on Friday 22 September. Term 4 commences on Monday 9 October.
Hats On
Though it’s still cold, the UV is on the increase so we remind you of the School policy regarding exposure to the sun: Simply stated, from August until May, there is a ‘No Hat – No Play’ policy. Please also ensure hats are in accordance with uniform requirements.
It was once said…
Blessings to you and your family.

This Sunday’s readings focus on divine forgiveness, which flows from the merciful heart of God. Matthew describes the experience of receiving and giving mercy in the parable of the unforgiving debtor.
As we listen to the story, we might feel overwhelmed when comparing this to our own lives. However, the fact is that even though we experience being loved and forgiven beyond measure we can still engage in petty, small and unforgiving behaviour towards others.
The writer of the Book of Sirach (first reading), urges us to forgive our neighbour and any hurt done to us. Then when we pray our sins will be forgiven. A great joy in itself!

Southside Corroboree Family and Culture Day
On Friday 2nd September, every single one of the 26 First Nations students at school joined with 300 other Southside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and teachers for a day of connection, culture, fun and activity together at Boomanulla Oval, Narrabundah.
We had an absolutely amazing day! Students were inspired by the elders of the First Nations community here in Canberra and told of their identity, their value and that they belong. This part of the day felt so significant for our students and really set the scene for why we were there. Students then participated in the phenomenal activity line up provided. These activities included cultural dance, sport and craft and best of all, connection with each other and the wider community of First Nations families of our school and beyond. Students were absolutely blown away by the impact of this day, and by all accounts, no one can wait for the next one!
I am absolutely loving getting to know each one of our Aboriginal students and I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve each of our First Nations families in this way. Please reach out and connect if there is anything I can do for yourself or your child, I would be delighted to hear from you.
