Dear SCA families,
St Clare of Assisi is a place for leaders. It's one of the “pillars” that supports our vision to “Be the Light”.
At SCA we have a wonderful tradition of working in partnership with students and their families to develop leaders for today and the future. We see every child is capable of leading in their own way at the appropriate time.
Unsurprisingly, then, I am always on the look out for examples of leadership amongst our students. I am always inspired when I hear and read about past and present SCA students, staff and families leading in our community and beyond. I see:
- Our children of all ages showing leadership to ensure our values of integrity, justice, joy and inspire are lived and experienced in words and actions;
- Children finding a jumper on the oval and taking it to the owner or someone who can help them do so;
- Children helping a friend to find their shoe after leaving the sandpit;
- Children cleaning up after a water spill;
- Children thanking their teacher for their feedback to help them improve;
- Children inviting a peer (not their friend) to join in a game when they don’t seem to be playing with anyone;
- Children apologising for bumping into another student;
- Children celebrating the achievements of others;
- Children reminding their friends to help each other reset their learning tools;
- Children asking a question to understand another person’s point of view.
Leadership is not made from standing in front of others and directing others to reach personal needs or goals. There are times when leadership with a strong voice is required, but a strong voice that is respected and respectful of all. Leadership happens every day in the simple, significant actions and words that inspire, understand others and create life-giving outcomes to be shared.
We have so many students who lead in this way daily at SCA and I am grateful to be leading alongside them. I am even more grateful that we are all back, learning and leading together as a school community.
Welcome Back
Woo hoo. Our school again feels alive and vibrant. Welcome back to your Years 3, 4 and 5 students. We have missed you and are so happy to have you back with us.
COVID Safe Measures
Please refer to the letter posted on Compass on Monday for the latest update regarding COVID safe measures. At a time when restrictions are being eased across the community, in schools we are still obliged to function under some very restrictive measures.
We do so, however, with a positive mindset, knowing it is for the safety of all our students, families and staff. Parents are reminded, that as in all schools in the ACT, visitors are not permitted unless for essential purposes. If you wish to meet with a teacher, please contact the front office to arrange a mutually convenient time and method.
Thanks
So many parents are patiently and responsibly working with us to ensure children are safely delivered to and from school each day.
The process of safely managing this for 540 children, while keeping Stage Groups separated, is not a small one, and I thank the vast majority of parents who help us to do this with patience and good humour. Thank you.
It was once said…

Blessings to you and your family. Be the light.
