FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear SCA families,

At the significant risk of sounding repetitive, the first half of 2020 will, I suspect, be the hot topic of history lessons in years to come. Our families, students and staff faced a blisteringly hot start, with smoke keeping us indoors and fires threatening our doorsteps. Fortunately conditions improved with some long overdue rain.

Who can then forget the hailstorm that wrote off tens of thousands of cars in Canberra? I still see some with the tell-tale scars at donut each day!

COVID-19, though, has been a world-changer. Surely every human on the planet has been affected in some way. Certainly every child in every school will long remember the year in which they invited their teachers into their living rooms on a daily basis!

Through these challenges, it has been a privilege to be part of SCA. Our families have sacrificed a great deal to prioritise their children’s well-being and learning. Our children have remained engaged and connected, even while not in the classroom. Our staff have been the best.

I have been exceptionally impressed with the professionalism and dedication of all the staff, as they have responded to every challenge with the best interests of the children at the forefront of their minds. I wish to thank each of them for their efforts so far this year. I am sure you all join with me in wishing them a well-earned and restful break.

Thanks to the children. The staff enjoy coming to work each day because we work with a wonderful group of children.

Enjoy the holidays everyone.

Parent / Teacher Interviews and Three Way Conferences

Bookings for these close on this Friday 3rd July.

Teachers are expecting to meet with all families, though only half have booked an appointment. Please do not leave it until the holidays, as the booking system closes this Friday..

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop Manager, Michelle Wood, will be taking leave for the first four weeks of next term. We are trying to find a temporary replacement to ensure lunch services are provided each day. We rely on a paid manager, as we simply do not have enough volunteers to run the tuckshop. I hope to be able to provide good news about a temporary replacement by the end of the week.

Reports

Semester One Reports will be sent home with the students on the first Monday of next term. A reminder will be sent via SZapp during the last week of the holidays.

Semester Awards

Congratulations to the students who were presented with an award at our end of semester ceremonies today. These are significant awards, and parents should be justifiably proud of their children.

Uniform

Most children are coming to school every day wearing the correct uniform. There is, though, an increasing number of children wearing non-uniform school shoes. Please remember that our policy is for black leather school shoes to be worn with the school uniform.

I ask that all families use the holiday period to ensure all children have all they need to wear the correct uniform to school when we resume on Monday 20th July.

Grandparents Day

We will celebrate the “grand-folk” in our children’s lives on Friday 31st July, which is the second Friday of next term. With COVID restrictions we won’t be able to invite them into the school as normal. We do, however, hope to provide an alternative of some sort.  More details will be provided in the first week of next term.

Staffing

Best wishes to Mrs Christine Roos, our wonderful Music Teacher, who is taking leave for the next two terms. We look forward to welcoming Mr Sebastian Bonilla as her replacement next term.

It was once said…

“A lot of problems in the world would disappear if we talked to each other instead of about each other.” –Ronald Reagan

Blessings to you and your family. Take care and go gently.
