This Sunday marks the third week of Advent in our Catholic Church.
Each Sunday in Advent a candle is lit on an Advent Wreath, reminding us that Christmas is coming nearer. The third candle is called the Shepherds candle. The colour pink reminds us that Christmas is approaching and is a colour of joy. It reminds us of what the shepherds did. First the shepherds listened to and obeyed the angels even though they were very afraid. Then they saw Jesus and believed. The most important thing to remember is what they did next – they told all that had happened to them so that others would also believe.
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2: 10-12
