RE News Week 3
Sunday's Gospel activity:
Important Dates and Reminders:
Commitment Masses
Over the next two weekends, our Year 6 students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to attend a commitment Mass. All members of our school community are encouraged to show their support for these students.
Confirmation Retreat Day
On Wednesday, 28th May (Week 5), all students will attend HFC for our Confirmation Retreat Day. Permission to attend the retreat must be given via Compass.
Launch of Vinnies Winter Appeal/CEO Sleepout
Most of us can bundle up during winter, seeking shelter from the harsh Canberra cold in our homes with heating, blankets, coats, and other items to keep us warm. However, this is not true for all Canberrans. The rate of homelessness and poverty continues to rise. With this in mind, we will once again support St Vincent de Paul through their Winter Appeal and CEO Sleepout. The Vinnies Winter Appeal provides emergency relief to those at risk of and experiencing homelessness. Donations of warm clothing and blankets, as well as financial contributions, are a vital source of support for St Vincent de Paul and all the wonderful work they do.
WINTER DONATIONS:
For the next three weeks (Weeks 4, 5, and 6), we invite our St Clare of Assisi families to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal by bringing in new warm winter items. Our Year 6 Faith Leaders will have a Mini-Vinnies stall set up each morning to receive the donations.
St Vincent de Paul has indicated that they need the following items:
- Blankets
- Jackets
- Beanies
- Jumpers
- Non-perishable foods (long-life milk, cereal, muesli bars, pasta, coffee)
- Warm gloves and socks
- Winter scarves
If you have other items of clothing to donate, our local Vinnies shopfront would love you to drop them off. It is located in Greenway on the corner of Pittman Street and Athllon Drive.
PYJAMA DAY Friday 6th of June
We will be having a Pyjama Day on Friday, 6th June (Week 6). We ask students to come dressed in their pyjamas and bring a gold coin or, if possible, a larger monetary donation to support Mr E in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout as he sheds light and insight into the harsh realities of homelessness.
Parish Trivia Night
Our parish of Corpus Christi will host a trivia night as a fundraiser on Friday, 20th June, 2025. It would be great to have families and friends of the school community attend. The evening will start at 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi School Hall. More information will follow.
