FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear SCA Families,
Walkathon
We have two main fundraisers each year, and this Friday is time for the last one; Walkathon. Please do all you can to encourage some sponsorship, and we would love for you to join us for a walk at the Pond on Friday.
Funds raised will go towards improving the Infants playground and the play area between OSHC and Year 1.
October
A lot of talking happens in a school. Hopefully there is even more listening. Communication is central to our functioning as humans. We are spiritual beings and so our communication with God is essential to our fullness as a person. The most obvious form of communication with God is through prayer. Prayer is about building a relationship. In the case of prayer, the relationship is with God.
A treasured prayer in our Catholic tradition is the Rosary, and next month, October, is a time for emphasis on the Rosary. The Rosary is a summary of the life of Jesus. The more we come to know these stories and the more we contemplate the mystery of God becoming human, the closer we come to understand and appreciate the presence of God in our lives. The Rosary provides the most intimate insight into God’s extraordinary love and compassion.
During the holidays (Monday 7th October) we celebrate the Feast of the Rosary. We cannot hope to deepen our relationship with God without prayer. The model of prayer for us is Mary. Praying the Rosary in the company of Mary can lead us towards personal fulfillment and unity with God.

Caring For Our School
ACT Policing will be increasing pro-active patrols around schools during the holidays, but we are also asking you, the community, to assist us in ensuring our schools remain secure.
Anyone who observes anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity around schools is urged to report this to police immediately on 131 444. This includes suspicious persons or vehicles seen at odd hours of the night, and any signs of potential criminal activity such as the sound of breaking glass, spray cans or electrical equipment being used at odd hours. By working together with police you can help to ensure that our school remain secure over the holidays, allowing our children to get the education they deserve.
Staffing
When we return next term our hard working Assistant Principal, Ms Val Ciuffetelli, will be taking four weeks of well-deserved long service leave. During this time, Mrs Karen Haines will be the Acting Assistant Principal. I congratulate and thank Karen for stepping up to take on this extra responsibility.
NAPLAN Results
NAPLAN results for students in Years 3 and 5 will be coming home with children this week. Please check school bags. Please remember that these results are a single snapshot of learning from three months ago. Please contact your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss any aspect of the reports.
A Big Thanks
On behalf of the children and their families I thank each staff member for their efforts during the term. I continue to be impressed with and thankful for the dedication and care shown by all the staff at St Clare of Assisi. Your children are in good hands.
Enjoy some special time with your family these holidays. I look forward to seeing you all when school resumes on Monday 14th October.
