From The Principal Week 7
Dear SCA Families,
Your child’s learning journey celebrates their engagement in a wide range of experiences and the everyday life at St Clare of Assisi Primary School. It tells a story about their spiritual growth, learning, their challenges, their friends and the everyday activities they enjoy. We know your child is unique with special skills, interests and ideas. We aim to challenge their thinking, develop their independence, and help them to reach their full potential in a faith filled Catholic school where they can connect, strive and flourish.
We hope that every child in our school has a family adult join them for their Learning Journey next Tuesday. The Journey takes about 20-30 minutes. If you can’t spare that time, just drop in for as long as you can – we don’t want any of our children to miss out on having their special adult at school for Learnings Journeys!
Your child’s classroom will be open for their Learning Journey on Tuesday 18th June from 3.10 – 4.30pm.
A Healthy Community
If your child is ill please keep them at home for their own benefit but also so as not to spread it to other students and staff. Please make sure that your emergency contacts are up-to-date so that we can contact you quickly if your child becomes ill or is injured at school. If your child needs medication at school, you are required to complete a “Request to Dispense Medication” form which is available at the Front Office.
A reminder that students are not to self-administer medication. Medication should not be kept in children’s bags but kept in the Front Office area and Karen, Annette or Jo will administer. Teachers will not administer or supervise the taking of medication. Please ask your child to take medications to the Front Office upon arrival at school.
Staff Absences
As winter has begun we are at that time of the year where there is a lot of sickness around. We have had a number of staff away in the last week and unfortunately, there are times when we are unable to provide relief teachers due to demand. In these times, we do our utmost to cover the class with other staff members, however there may be situations where your child may be placed in another class for the day with set work.
WWVP
Just a reminder to anyone coming in to the school to help that you must have your WWVP card on you. Although you sign in when you arrive and record the WWVP card number and we have a photocopy of this, if we are audited whilst you are in the school building, you must be able to show the card. If you are unable to, you will be given a personal fine and the school will also be fined. Thank you so much for your cooperation with this compliance.
Leaving SCA?
Don’t forget to let us know if you are planning to leave St Clare of Assisi at the end of the year. (Year 6 exempt of course!) We will soon commence the process of planning enrolments and class numbers for next year.

Semester One Reports
Teachers are preparing Semester One reports this week which will be made available on Compass on Friday 5th July.
Please note the following is used in all Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn schools.
For Kindergarten students:
- Achievement in each subject is reported using a four-point scale (Above Expectations, Meeting Expectations, Working Towards Expectations, Experiencing Difficulty).
For Year 1 to Year 6 students:
- Academic grades for each subject using a five-point scale from A-E will be reported using the ACT Common Grade Scale.
For all students:
- Strand Achievement will be reported in English, Mathematics, Human Society and its Environment, PDHPE and Creative Arts using a five-point scale (Consistently, High, At Standard, Partial, Limited).
- Engagement with Learning statements, which are taken directly from the Australian Curriculum, will provide specific information about your child’s Critical and Creative Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility, using a three-point scale (Consistently, Usually, Developing, Needs Improvement).
- Individual student comments will NOT be used in the Semester 1 Reports.
Dialogue is an important feature of reporting. The Semester Report in this format encourages parent engagement and conversation about student learning. We want the report to be the entry point for three-way conferences where we can engage in genuine conversation about your child’s strengths, challenges, effort and areas for growth.
These conferences will take place early next term, to allow each student, with the support of the school and family, to set goals and processes in place for the rest of the year.
Community Council Meeting
Our final Community Council Meeting for the term will be held next Tuesday (18th June) in the school staff room. All are welcome. The following items are open for discussion discussed:
- OSHC report
- 2024 Fete
- 30th Anniversary Celebrations
- Enrolments.
If you would like to discuss any of the items, please speak with one of our Council members, or email council.scaconder@cg.catholic.edu.au

It was once said…
Ten Lessons to Instil in My Kids…
If you’re thankful, show it.
If you love someone, tell them.
If you’re wrong, fess up.
If you’re confused, ask questions.
If you learn something, teach others.
If you’re stuck, ask for help.
If you made a mistake, apologise.
If you trip, get back up.
If someone needs help, help them.
If you see wrong, take a stance. unknown
Blessings to you and your family.
