In Spelling Mastery we Shine!

In line with our School Motto ‘Be the Light’, our beautiful students from Years 3-6 completed the end of year Spelling Mastery Tests and were all stars, shining brightly.

As has been described in previous newsletters, Spelling Mastery is an evidence-based, explicit approach to teaching spelling skills and phonemic awareness. Our students are grouped according to their needs in spelling, and this is based on recommended levels from Spelling Mastery assessments. For example, we have some Year 3s working with Year 4s. ‘Mastery Learning’ is explicit direct instruction for 25 minutes per day in Spelling, 4 times per week. It aims for the students to be ‘masters’ of particular skills/understandings about how word and sounds works before moving on to the next concept.

We are very pleased to announce that the data collected demonstrates expedential growth in every single student from Years 3 to 6. A big thankyou to our teachers who have all worked hard to ensure improved student outcomes.  

The Spelling Mastery Program will continue in 2024.
