FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear SCA Families,

Happy Fathers Day (this Sunday) to all the dads, grand-dads, uncles and father-figures of our children. Congratulations on the love you put into being a father. Though they may not say it, the children appreciate you for the love you put into their lives.

Woo hoo!

A huge congratulations to our Year 6 team of students, Tristan S, Kyle O, Mikah R, Maddi W, Gabby T and Tanishqa R, on their nomination for the 2019 Catholic Schools Cultural Festival awards.

We received news recently that from among the number of high quality nominations, the committee has nominated SCA News as one of our category winners, with the award to be presented at the Catholic Education Recognition Awards Mass. The Awards are on this Thursday, so we hope to share some photos with you in next week’s Newsletter.

This is well-deserved recognition, not only of our students, but of our Year 6 teaching team. Special thanks to Mrs Priscilla Caragh for leading the introduction of SCA News to our school just under two years ago.

Tuggeranong Athletics Carnival

Our very own Mr Ben Sweeney is coordinating this year’s Tuggeranong Athletics Carnival, which is being held today (Wednesday 28th August). We thank him for the work he has done so far and wish him a successful sporting endeavour. We also wish all our participating SCA students a fun and rewarding experience.

Book Week

Thank you to Mrs Katherine Austin for planning a wonderful Book Week last week. Thanks also to Mrs Robyn Jolly, Mrs Emma Currey and to the many staff and parent volunteers for making the annual Book Fair a great success. We managed to sell approximately $10,000 worth of books and accessories to the students. The commission will help the school purchase new resources for the library. Thank you to parents and carers for their financial support of the Book Fair.

Winter Sports

Congratulations to many of our students who have been playing a range of sports over the winter months. Many parents have also been involved in coaching, umpiring/refereeing and managing teams. Thank you to all our players, coaches, officials and supporters for a very successful season. We are happy to hear about any great results to put in the Newsletter.

Uniform

A reminder that Summer Uniform commences in Term 4, so please check the wardrobe and visit the Clothing Pool and Savvy if any items are needed. We will have the usual transition period early in Term 4 to cater for the unpredictable weather.

A reminder that black leather school shoes are an essential item of uniform. Several parents comment that their Year 6 child only has one term left at school. However, students also need black school shoes in high school.

Great News

Each week a different group of Year 6 students write, record and produce an online SCA News. Not only does it showcase the ICT skills of our students, it is a good source of what’s happening in the school. Thanks to the Year 6 teachers for this great initiative, and well done to all the Year 6 students.

This week’s news can be seen on our Facebook page.

Staffing

We wish Mr Mike Stoelinga happy and safe travels as he heads overseas next week while taking long service leave until the end of term. We welcome Kylie Jenkins who will be teaching in 2 Green for the rest of the term.

While the Cat’s Away…

I will be away from school next week (2 - 6 September) while I attend the annual Australian Primary Principals’ Association Conference in Adelaide. Ms Val Ciuffetelli will be in charge during this time.

It was once said…

“What did the fish say when he hit a wall? … Dam.” ~ A classic dad joke for Fathers’ Day

Congratulations to the children in our Parish who received Holy Communion for the first time last weekend. May they always be so welcoming of Jesus’ presence in their lives.

Blessings to you and your family.
