FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear SCA Families,

Thank you sincerely to all who made last week so special. Celebrating our patron Saint, and 25 years of our wonderful school gave us all chance to give thanks for the blessings of our community.

To all the staff who were involved in organising Mass, led by Mrs Karen Haines, well done. It was a fitting way to mark the day. The music in particular, was wonderful; thanks to Mrs Christine Roos, Mr Michael Stoelinga and Mrs Evie Tjhia, and the student musicians for bringing it together. Thanks also to Michelle and Sandra for feeding so many in such a short space of time.

There was a tremendous vibe at our Jubilee Dinner on Friday evening, shared by present families and staff, as well as a significant number of former staff and parents. It was great to catch up with such a range of people. As Mary Mathias, a former principal, noted, it was a true testament to the community, that so many people came back.

Thanks to the organising committee of Karen Haines, Karen Snowball, Annette Galvin, Jo McCarthy, Evie Tjhia, Tracy Mowlam, Katherine Austin, Priscilla Caragh, Narelle O’Callaghan, Samantha Slocomb, Emma Delmenico and Val Ciuffetelli for a great job. Thanks also to Beth Lehmensich, former teacher, for helping with the photo story. We are also grateful to Poetry in Flowers (the Andriske family) for the generous donations of floral arrangements for our tables on the night.  The beautiful arrangements can be still seen in our Front Office area.

Outside School Hours Care

It is with a deal of sadness that I inform you that Gareth Clouston is resigning from his position as Director of St Clare of Assisi Primary School OSHC. His final day at SCA will be Friday 13 September.

For the past seven years, Gareth has worked tirelessly for the students and staff of OSHC. In the last two years, he has led our centre with passion and energy, and significantly contributed to making it the wonderful environment it is.

The position of Director is being advertised through local and national media.

On behalf of our staff and families, I express our sincere and grateful thanks to Gareth for his contribution to OSHC in our school. I wish Gareth all the best for the future.

15th August

On Thursday we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. It originated in the Fourth Century when there was a popular understanding that the apostles found the tomb of Mary empty.

For us the Feast of the Assumption is a celebration of the hope of eternal life promised by God. The Assumption of Mary stands today as a sign of the human dignity we all share. It celebrates the fact that when our human potential for goodness and wholeness is fully realised it ends in union with God. As we journey through life and face difficulties, and reflect on the problems that divide our world, we look to Mary for hope.

She lived solely for God and for the welfare of others and, in that, achieved self-fulfilment through remaining faithful and steadfast. Mary’s holiness and greatness are found in this constant fidelity to God and the mission entrusted to her. Mary gives us a clear way to respond to God’s call and live a full life in service to others.

It was once said…

“The best thing you can spend on your kids is time.” ~ Arnold Glasow

Please pray for our Year 4 children, many of whom over these two weeks will be receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time.

Blessings to you and your family.
