From The Principal Week 9

Dear SCA Families,

Colour Run

We are excited about Friday, and even more excited about our new playground equipment. In the next 24 hours, please do all you can to sponsor and support our major fundraiser for the first half of this year.

The last week of Term/Lent

A friend of mine speaks of her nephew who, when he began to talk, greeted his mum in the morning with, “Is it a sunny day?”. That question from a sleepy-eyed toddler was usually enough to make her day sunny, no matter what the weather. It also revealed that the young boy knew that sunny days can mean happy days.

We know that, too. We know what it does to a group when a person with unrestrained gloom enters a room, and what a vibrant smile can do to a bus full of anxious commuters. We all carry a bit of light and darkness within ourselves, and we have the freedom to shed one or the other on those around us. We may not be able to make peace happen in a war-torn country, or stem the tide of violence on our streets. But, in our own homes, workplaces and communities, we have the power to let the light of gentleness and peace shine.

May each of us appreciate the sunny days in our lives, and may we, during the final week of Lent, bring more sunshine than gloom into the lives of those around us.

As we near the end of Term One, I reflect how great it has been to have school return to normal after two years of COVID affected learning. I love seeing the number of parents at morning assembly and other school events and activities. We have a special community here at SCA and I thank each of you for the role you play in making it so.

Special thanks at this time of the year to our staff who have determinedly and joyfully done all they can to support such a range of children and families. It was topped off this week with some late evenings meeting with families. We also acknowledge the many wonderful parents who can help in those extra ways such as Parent Network, Canteen Volunteers, Lost Property Sorters, Carnival Helpers, Colour Run Supporters, Library Helpers. Thanks for making SCA such a great place to be.

School Fees are now Overdue

To help us pay our bills, please pay yours. Thanks to those families who are up to date. As always, if you are facing difficulties in meeting your fee commitments, please arrange a time to meet with me.

An Icon

With the passing of Senior Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, we will fly the Aboriginal flag at half-mast on Tuesday 4th April.

Aunty Agnes Shea was a remarkable Senior Ngunnawal Elder who made a significant impact on her community and beyond. She was a woman of strength, resilience, and kindness, who dedicated her life to preserving the culture and traditions of her people.

As an advocate for reconciliation and social justice, Aunty Agnes Shea worked to promote awareness and understanding of Indigenous issues. She shared her knowledge and wisdom generously, with a gentle and welcoming spirit, to those who sought to learn from her.

Aunty Agnes Shea was a mentor and role model to many, both within her own community and beyond. She inspired others to embrace their culture, language, and identity, and to work towards a better future for all Australians.

Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the contributions she made to her community. We will always be grateful for the wisdom, guidance, and love that Aunty Agnes Shea shared with us.

Rest in peace, Aunty Agnes Shea. Your spirit will continue to guide us.

Winter Uniform

It is time to get the winter uniforms out and dust them off. We will be wearing it when we return for Term 2 on Wednesday 26th April. We will have the usual couple of weeks of change over, but students are expected to wear correct winter uniform.

In keeping with Cancer Council recommendations, school hats are still to be worn during April and May.

2024 Enrolment Period is from 1st May until 31st May

Open Days Thursday 4th May and Thursday 18th May

Enrolment time will be on us again in a few weeks. If you have a little one ready for school in 2024 or you know of anyone interested in looking at our fantastic school for their children, the enrolment packs will be ready for the beginning of the new term.

It was once said…
