From the Principal Week 5

Dear Parents and Carers,

Reporting - Semester 1 2022

Our teachers have begun the process of creating each child’s Semester 1 2022 report.

A team at Catholic Education, Canberra Goulburn have been working over the past two years to develop our reporting system and there are a few minor changes being introduced this year.

In Semester 1:

For Kindergarten students:

Achievement in each subject will be reported using a four-point scale (Above Expectations, Meeting Expectations, Working Towards Expectations and Experiencing Difficulty).

For Year 1 to Year 6 students:

Academic grades for each subject using a five-point scale from A-E will be reported using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.

For all students:

Strand Achievement will be reported in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, and The Arts using a five-point scale (Outstanding, High, At Standard, Partial, Limited)

Engagement with Learning statements, which are taken directly from the Australian Curriculum, will provide specific information about your child’s Critical and Creative Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility, using a three-point scale (Consistently, Developing, Needs Improvement).

Individual student comments will be used in the Semester 1 Reports.

Dialogue is an important feature of reporting. At the halfway point of Term 1 we had our Interim Reports sent home followed by Three Way Conferences. The Semester Report in this format encourages the continuation of parent engagement and conversation about student learning. Parents are always welcome to make a time to meet with teachers where we can engage in genuine conversation about your child’s strengths, challenges, effort, and areas for growth. We will also invite parents to do this in Week 10 after reports have gone home should you want to discuss any aspect of your child’s report.

This approach to Academic Reporting is a developing process. Further work will be undertaken in the coming months to determine how progress and achievement is best reported, based on what we know to be important information about a student’s learning and progress.

Thank you for your ongoing care and partnership in your child’s learning.

God bless.

Principal’s Notes

Election Day Polling Booth

Thank you to the Community Council and the Parent Network who did an outstanding job organizing and running our polling booth sausage sizzle. Thank you to the volunteers who helped on the day. The day could not have run without your support! Thank you also to those in the community who took the opportunity to vote at the school and purchase some items on the day.

Tell Them from Me

In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers, and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.

We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Clare of Assisi Primary School.

The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:

Sick Students

If your child is ill, please keep them at home for their own benefit but also so as not to spread it to other students and staff. Please make sure that your emergency contacts are up to date so that we can contact you quickly if your child becomes ill or is injured at school. Please note that often when you send a child to school and tell them to ‘get the office to call me if you are unwell’ that they present to sick bay soon on arrival at school. We do our best to keep them at school if they are well enough, but that is not always easy!

Day Away

Teachers, due to the nature of their job working with so many children, are often exposed to a range of colds and bugs. This can result in teachers being away sick. Every attempt is made to organise a relief teacher to cover the class for the day.

However, at times, it is difficult to get suitable relief teachers, even after 10-20 phone calls! At St Clare of Assisi, we may have to split students across classes within their grade level. Thank you in anticipation of your support with this matter.

Enrolments Close on 27th May

Just a reminder that enrolments close on Friday 27th May for Kindergarten 2023 and Year 7 2023.
