Our Lady Help of Christians
Next week, on May 24, the Church celebrates the solemnity of Our Lady Help of Christians. Catholic Australians historically had a special reason for turning to Mary. In the early days of settlement, no priests were sent to the colony and Mass was not allowed except for one brief year until 1820. It was largely the Rosary in those early days that kept the faith alive. Catholic Australia has remained faithful to Mary and was the first nation to choose her under the title Help of Christians, as principal Patroness.
Mary, Help of Christians, watch over us with love.
Intercede for us with your Son, to bless Australia,
so that we can be people of peace,
people who love and respect each other,
and people who love and respect our land, Australia.
We make this prayer through Jesus your Son.
Amen.
A Message from our Youth Minister
Hi, it is Osley, the St Clare of Assisi Youth minister for 2022. I have had a wonderful time working beside the faith leaders during Term 1. During the first term, I started leading Christian meditation in different classes, with last term focused on Year 1 and Year 2.
I am looking forward to continuing Christian meditation in more of the classes this term.
Last term, I also learnt more about confirmation and what it meant, and I received the sacrament of Confirmation myself! For me, being confirmed strengthened my relationship with God as I became a full member of the Christian community. With everything I have learned, I am excited to be helping the Year 6s as they work towards their own confirmation this term.
Here is a short prayer I love doing in the morning, you might like to pray this too:
O Jesus, through the most pure heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your divine heart. Amen.
God bless, Osley
Basecamp Retreat for Years 5 and 6
The basecamp retreat is on this weekend! It is an opportunity for Year 5 and 6 students to have fun, listen, find hope, peace and replenishment amidst the busyness of life. All Year 5 and 6 students are invited to attend. The retreat is a part of the Youth Ministry initiative in the archdiocese and our very own youth minister Osley will be one of the youth ministers in attendance.
