Athletics Carnival - Year 3 – 6
Dear Year 3-6 Parents,
The Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 30th April at Banks Oval. The carnival will include both track and field events. All children will be competing in all events on a rotational basis.
Children aged 7 years & up (as of 1st Jan 2021) will participate in the carnival. We will leave school at 9:00am and walk down to the oval. They will travel by bus on the way back to school. K – 1 will join the rest of the school at 11:20am. Age groupings are based on the age your child is turning or has turned this calendar year, (eg. all 2009 babies are 12 years).
Children will need to bring their own recess, lunch and at least one drink bottle of water. A canteen will be available for snacks and drinks. Children are to wear full sports uniform with their house T-shirt and school hat. Bringing sunscreen is highly encouraged.
The 800m and the High Jump will be held separately on days to be announced soon. An athletics squad will be chosen from this carnival to compete at the Tuggeranong Region Track and Field Carnival later in the year. Children will be selected from 8 years and up in the sprint events and 10 years and up in sprints, field events and 800m. However, at this stage due to Covid, there will be no ACT Athletics Carnival.
Once again, we need many helpers to ensure a successful day. The children will be rotating around the events in their age groups with a teacher and so we will be requiring parent assistance in running each event. It is in no way difficult – it’s a great opportunity to have a day out and help your children have a fun, active time. If you are able to give a few hours on the day, please fill in the form.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We are hoping that with many volunteers, there will be opportunities for everyone to have a break and spend time with their children. Helpers must have a WWVP card and be able to adhere to Covid safety guidelines. Many hands make light work.
Please complete this note and return by Thursday 1st April (Week 9). Thank you for your support.
